How to measure
LengthWidth
Measure length and width in plan. Depth or thickness is perpendicular to that surface. Calculate different depths separately. Diagram is schematic, not a construction drawing.

Enter local installed rates before using the cost range. Base rates should already include concrete and the agreed standard scope; removal and finish upgrades are added separately.

Concrete quantity is a separate cross-check and is not charged again on top of installed rates.

Only prices you entered are included. Zero-priced items, delivery, tax, tools, and labor are excluded unless entered separately.

Planning estimate, not a contractor quote. Review the assumptions and replace presets with local prices when available.

Method

How this calculator works

A basic patio, a decorative finish, and a replacement patio can have very different scopes. Start with installed rates from comparable local quotes and add only upgrades and removal that those rates exclude. The concrete order is a quantity cross-check, not an extra material charge added on top of an installed rate. Price inputs start at zero to avoid presenting a made-up local quote.

Formula

Concrete yd³ = length × width × thickness inches ÷ 324 × allowance factor. Each cost band = area × (installed band rate + removal rate + finish upgrade rate) + fixed charges.

Worked example

A realistic starting point

A 200 ft² project at illustrative installed rates of $8, $12, and $16 per ft² starts at $1,600, $2,400, and $3,200. Adding $2/ft² removal, $1/ft² finish upgrades, and $200 fixed charges produces $2,400, $3,200, and $4,000. These are arithmetic examples, not market prices.

What changes the answer

Factors worth checking

01

Match the quoted scope

Check excavation, base, reinforcement, forms, placement, finishing, and curing with the contractor. Add only genuinely excluded items.

02

Quantity and price are separate

Thickness changes concrete volume. It only changes the installed cost when you enter a rate that reflects the thicker specification.

03

Fixed charges

Small-job minimums or difficult access can behave as fixed charges. Keep these visible rather than hiding them inside a universal square-foot price.

Common questions

Concrete Patio Cost FAQ

Why does the initial price show zero?

No quote has been entered. Enter local rates and extras to obtain a meaningful budget.

Does the total include concrete delivery?

Only when it is already inside the installed rates or included in fixed charges. Do not add it twice.

Can I compare finishes?

Use the comparison scenario with finish-specific rates and extras, keeping the base scope consistent.
