Planning estimate, not a contractor quote. Review the assumptions and replace presets with local prices when available.

Method

How this calculator works

Driveway bids combine concrete, base work, reinforcement, forms, finishing, joints, access, and sometimes demolition. A cost per square foot is useful for planning only when its inclusions are clear. Calcstead keeps material quantity and installed cost as separate calculations.

Formula

Area = length × width. Installed range = area × (rate + removal rate) × regional factor + fixed extras. Concrete order = length × width × thickness, plus allowance, converted to yd³ and rounded up.

Worked example

A realistic starting point

A 20 ft by 30 ft driveway is 600 ft². At $8–$14 per ft², the starting planning range is $4,800–$8,400. At 5 in thick with a 10% allowance, the order estimate is 10.25 yd³.

What changes the answer

Factors worth checking

01

New work vs replacement

Replacement can require saw cutting, breaking, loading, disposal, and repair of the underlying base.

02

Base and drainage

Weak soil, standing water, poor slope, and inadequate aggregate base can require more work than the concrete placement.

03

Finish and reinforcement

Decorative finishes, borders, color, thicker sections, rebar, and dowels should be priced explicitly.

04

Geometry and access

Curves, aprons, turnarounds, long pump distances, and restricted truck access increase complexity.

Common questions

Concrete driveway cost FAQ

What size is a two-car driveway?

Widths around 20–24 ft are common for two cars, but doors, setbacks, vehicle size, turning room, and local standards determine the actual design.

Is old driveway removal included?

Only when you enter a removal rate. Disposal, base repair, and access can make removal costs vary widely.

Should I compare asphalt?

Yes. Compare initial price, base condition, climate, maintenance, appearance, and expected service—not only cost per square foot.

Does this replace a contractor quote?

No. It creates a transparent budget range and quantity check so you can compare quote assumptions.
