A cubic yard is not a fixed weight
At an illustrative 100 lb/ft³, one cubic yard weighs 1.35 US tons. At 105 lb/ft³, it weighs 1.4175 tons. These values show the effect of density; they do not certify the weight of every product sold under either name.

Use the appropriate loose-volume assumption
A decorative layer and a specified compacted base may have different volume assumptions. Match the supplier’s conversion basis. If the quote already states the quantity for the finished layer, do not automatically apply another allowance.

Compare delivered complete orders
Round the calculated weight to each supplier’s increment and add applicable delivery. A higher price per ton can still produce a different total because density, order minimums, and logistics differ. Product suitability remains a separate decision from the cheapest numerical total.
