How Many Drywall Sheets for a Room?
Calculate the net surface first, then divide by the area of one sheet. Round up after adding a chosen cutting allowance and verify the result against an actual panel layout.

A 12 × 15 ft room with 8 ft walls has 432 ft² of gross wall area. Subtracting 32 ft² of openings leaves 400 ft². The ceiling adds 180 ft² if included, giving 580 ft² total.
Compare sheet sizes on the same scope
With 10% allowance, the wall-only purchase area is 440 ft² and the wall-plus-ceiling area is 638 ft².

Check layout before purchasing
A long panel may reduce the number of joints but still be impractical to transport through the building. Small openings may not produce reusable offcuts, and the chosen assembly may require particular panel orientation or type. Keep finishing supplies, fasteners, and installation labor outside the panel-only price.
